One does not follow from the other

From Fred Thompson's speech-

Now, being a POW certainly doesn't qualify anyone to be President.

But it does reveal character.

This is the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of history have sought in their leaders.

Strength.

Courage.

Humility.

Wisdom.

Duty.

Honor.

It's pretty clear there are two questions we will never have to ask ourselves, "Who is this man?" and "Can we trust this man with the Presidency?"

To begin with, the most critical of the attributes Thompson mentions is wisdom, which is the one thing that McCain's POW experience doesn't speak to at all. A bit of humility would be helpful, which does not seem to be McCain's strong point. We've seen over the last eight years the results of the combination of strength, courage and a sense of honor when lacking wisdom and humility.

Neither of Thompson's questions are at all answered by McCain's story. They are, however, answered by McCain's record:

We know McCain is a man who recklessly makes decisions with massive consequences for the public with little thought or investigation. We know McCain is a man with little interest in the economic issues that matter most to Americans. We know McCain is a man with so few principles that he switched positions on every major issue facing America in order to win the Republican nomination.

The answers to the first question makes the answer to the second question clear. We know we cannot trust John McCain with the presidency.
