Poor W.

Thoughts on the election will be forthcoming when I have more mental energy for reflection. In the meantime, I'll criticize a hackish article in the Journal today whining about Bush's treatment by Republicans and Democrats:

The president's original Supreme Court choice of Harriet Miers alarmed Republicans, while his final nomination of Samuel Alito angered Democrats. His solutions to reform the immigration system alienated traditional conservatives, while his refusal to retreat in Iraq has enraged liberals who have unrealistic expectations about the challenges we face there.
It seems that no matter what Mr. Bush does, he is blamed for everything. He remains despised by the left while continuously disappointing the right.

Well, you get blamed for the things that you do that are stupid. Miers was a terrible and unqualified choice for Supreme Court, and Alito was an intemperate, right-wing extremist. When you pick bad people and make bad decisions, you tend to be despised by your opponents and disappoint your friends.

god I had forgotten about her, what it with these people and gross incompetence, it's like they honestly believe if they just pray hard enough they'll be given divine inspiration to the lord's work.

a blurb from wikipedia that puts it succinctly :
On October 3, 2005, Bush nominated Miers to serve as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Miers' nomination was criticized from people all over the political spectrum based on her never having served as a judge, her perceived lack of intellectual rigor, her close personal ties to Bush, and her lack of a clear record on issues likely to be encountered as a Supreme Court Justice. Many notable conservatives vigorously criticized her nomination, and numerous conservative groups normally considered part of Bush's political base planned to mount an organized opposition campaign.

I mean gee who does she remind you of?
